Prescott's Yoali Ortega sets up a play as her teammates look on at a tournament earlier this year.

PRESCOTT – The Tigers volleyball team took home their first win of the season in a home non-league match against the College Place Hawks on Tues., Sept. 22. The Tigers took the win in four sets: 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-15.

The tigers were led by senior Athziry Amezcua with 13 service aces and junior Michelle Cardenas with eight.

"I'm so proud of the girls. They lost the first set but came back to sweep the next three. They finished strong and didn't allow the Hawks to gain confidence. We hope to build off of this going into more league play," said Coach Bob Young.

The Tigers hosted Dayton on Thurs. Sept. 24, but fell in three quick sets: 16-25, 8-25, 13-25. Dayton Bulldog Coach Shannon Turner said she was impressed with Prescott. "They were energetic and upbeat and played with a lot of enthusiasm," she said.

The Tigers were led by outstanding play by their middles, Ruby tosales and Yoali Ortega and Athziry Amezcua continued to lead her team in service aces with five, Young said.

"We are making great strides in our quality of play. In our first ear, the girls are really coming together as a team," said Coach Young. "We demonstrated tremendous hustle and heart. We're starting to get it," he added.

Prescott plays Tri-Cities Prep next, on the road, on Tues., Sept. 29.
