Forest Health Field Day

DAYTON – Forestry experts will offering a forest health field day at the Columbia County Fire Station conference room (111 Patit Road, Dayton) at 10 a.m. on Thurs., Oct. 8. Following an overview and introductions at the fire station, attendees will visit the forestlands of several local private landowners to discuss issues related to forest health in the field with specialists.

Lia Spiegel, Lead Forest Entomologist and Mike Johnson, PhD forest pathologist from the USDA U.S. Forest Service will be available to review, examine, diagnose and offer professional recommendations specific to several forest stand conditions.

There is a $10 donation requested for registration. To register, call the RC&D office at (509) 337-8968 by Oct. 6 and leave a message with the name and number of persons wishing to attend. A lunch of grilled meats, vegetables and water is planned and attendees are encouraged (not required) to bring a side dish, chips or fruit, if possible.

All donations will support further educational forest projects sponsored by the Palouse-Snake River Chapter of the Inland Empire of Society of American Foresters and the Blue Mountain RC& D council, who are co-hosting the event. Additional information is available by calling (509) 386-6021.
