Waitsburg: Alive with Live Music this Weekend

Waitsburg’s annual Pioneer Fall Festival will feature a great variety of activities for kids of all ages on Sunday.

Pioneers of the Year will be honored and pies will be baked and auctioned off. Waitsburg’s museum complex, including the Bruce Museum and the Wilson-Phillips House, will be open for tours.

A community church service will be held at 11 a.m., and, as usual, a vintage style show will be held in the afternoon.

But a special treat this year will be on the stage in front of the Bruce Museum. A big lineup of music performers will perform for guests at this year’s event. These groups include:

Grandma & the Boys

Waitsburg’s own bluegrass band, Switchgrass

The Turner Clan

The Waitsburg Women’s Trio

Longtime local favorite, the Waitsburg Quartet

The Kuykendall Kids

bIG fONT

(You can find times for all of these performers in the article at right.)

I saw Walla Walla’s bIG fONT during the Gentlemen of the Road event last month on one of the downtown stages. They are a trio who performs a wide variety of down home music that’s sure to please. The group features a 93-year-old washboard player named Val “The Don” Valiante.

It’s not very often that Waitsburg gets to experience a long day of outstanding live music. Be sure to get to the Bruce Museum early, pick out a good spot on the lawn and get ready to enjoy the show. You won’t be sorry.
