Last year's first Foodstock event at Dayton's Blue Mountain Station drew an enthusiastic crowd.

DAYTON – The Blue Mountain Station Co-op is sponsoring its second annual FoodStock event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. FoodStock features food, live music and fun activities.

Last year's event took place on the anniversary weekend of the famous 1969 Woodstock music festival. However, since that date conflicts with the Gentlemen of the Road Tour event in Walla Walla next month, FoodStock was moved up a few weeks, according to co-op board member Brad McMasters.

"We didn't want to compete with that," McMasters said. "It was decided to move the event to coincide with Dayton's Alumni Weekend, and the board believes that it is a great fit and will offer another festive activity for alumni and their families."

Special features of this year's FoodStock include:

FOOD:

Dee Cusick and Karen Jacobson, owners of the Smokehouse Wenches from Walla Walla will be at the Blue Mountain Station serving their delicious gourmet hot dogs.

Emry and Sandy Kleck of the Q Catering in Waitsburg will be serving up delicious BBQ.

MUSIC:

Dayton musician Daergan Guy will be performing at the Blue Mountain Station. Daergan has an earthy, "blackgrass" acoustic style of music.

Don Putnam of Walla Walla will be performing all day as well. Don can play any style of music and is so much fun to listen to.

ACTIVITIES:

Bounce house will be set up for families with children.

Foodstock T-shirts may be purchased and tie-dyed. It's a fun activity and a great memento.

The artisan market will be open selling fresh, local and sustainable products. It's a great time of year for produce, so expect a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Farmer's Market vendors will be set up outside selling their handcrafted foods and crafts.

The public is invited to visit, enjoy the festivities, learn more about the Port of Columbia's Blue Mountain Station Food Processing Park and learn about the Blue Mountain Station Co-op.

The co-op is a not-for-profit group whose goal is to promote healthy, sustainable living in the Touchet Valley, according to McMasters. Co-op members who pay annual dues receive incentives to shop in the artisan market and are encouraged to volunteer to help the board support the goals of the co-op organization.
