Growing Giant Pumpkins

WAITSBURG - Waitsburg's Gayle Broom would like to share her garden with children interested in growing giant pumpkins. Broom grew her own great pumpkin last year and took first place in the weight class at the Walla Walla County Fair. Broom would love to share her knowledge and have area youngsters join her in this year's competition.

Broom is limiting the size of the group to the first eight children who sign up. The first meeting will take place Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. The group will then start seeds indoors on Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. Pumpkins will be transplanted outdoors on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. Children interested in growing a giant pumpkin should contact Gayle Broom at 337- 6688 or Kate Hockersmith at 337-8789.
