MOSES LAKE - The WP Tigers finished their season 12-4 overall and 4-0 in league, securing the top seed in the soccer playoffs. They face Northport in Con­nell at 1 p.m. Saturday, and are expected to breeze past this first winless playoff op­ponent before facing a much tougher team - likely arch rival St. George of Spokane.

"We'll be ready to play," assistant coach Jay Potts said about this weekend's first playoff test. "We'll be up for it."

The Tigers won their last two games of the season. They beat Irrigon 5-0 on Friday and Moses Lake 4-1 on Monday.

In the Friday game, WP was sluggish during the first half with only Rodrigo Gon­zalez scoring one unassisted goal in the 37th minute. But the coaches mixed up the forward line at the break and got better results.

Rodrigo Gonzalez, as­sisted by Armando Iglesias, scored in the 45th minute to put the Tigers ahead 2-0, followed six minutes later by a goal from Al­berto Mendez assisted by Ivan Figueroa. Luis Garcia brought the score to 4-0 with an unassisted goal in the 75th minute. He was followed four minutes later by a Tyler Fedderson strike with help from Luis Garcia.

In all, the Tigers launched 40 shots on goal. Goalie Os­car Garcia had one save.

"We controlled the entire game," Potts said.

Against Moses Lake, Mendez was the first to score in the 25th minute with an unassisted goal. Fedderson gave his team a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later with assistance from Chris­tian Caro. After halftime, Figueroa scored the third goal with assistance from Jose Pananagua in the 45th minute. Two minutes later, Roger Gonzalez launched an unassisted strike to make it 4-0.

Moses Lakes rebounded for one goal in the 75th min­ute, despite the fact the team was down one player for the duration.

The Tigers played their bench for much of both games, Potts said. "Every­one got a whole lot of play­ing time.

Before they head into the playoffs, WP still needs to work on its attack strat­egy, the assistant coach said. That means following through on rebounds, er­rors and other opportunities when they present them­selves in or near the box in front of the goal.

"We have to keep work­ing on 'our game,'" he said. "We need more success with (coordinated) move­ment up front. When they do, it looks like a very pretty thing out there."
