Constitution Week Celebrated

September 12, 2013

The Constitution of the United States of America is commemorated each year between September 17 - 23rd. September 17 is designated Constitution Day, celebrating the signing of the Constitution by the 39 delegates of the Constitu- tional Convention. In 1956 Congress, with the urging of the Daughters of the American Revolution, set aside September 17 - 23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The observance was signed into Public Law #915 and signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 2, 1956.

How do you celebrate Constitution Week? By reading the Constitution, learning about the historical events surrounding the cre- ation of the Constitution, and reminding yourself that the Constitution is a living docu- ment that guarantees the freedoms Americans enjoy.
