May 5 - 14 Fiddler on the Roof- Walla Walla High School

The Wal la Wal la High School's Performing Arts Auditorium has been transformed into a small village in Russia as the WA-Hi Drama department presents Fiddler on the Roof, whose cast includes Dayton's Cougar Henderson.

Theater goers will be immersed in the family life of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, as he tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, "Fiddler On The Roof" has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. It's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

Waitsburg Spring Concert

Waitsburg High School Band and Chorus and the Preston Hall Band are getting ready for Spring Concert - "Under My Umbrella" - on Tuesday, May 10, in the beautiful WHS auditorium.

This year the Preston Hall 7-8th grade band will lead out with some exciting songs: "Tribal Drums" and "Coronado", from their band festival selections. They will add "Little English Suite" and the awesome "Afterburn", and finish with one of their parade songs for this year, the Black-Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling."

The Waitsburg High School Band will follow up with some famous and intricate pieces: Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture", Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer", featuring Nicholas Pearson on ragtime piano, the exciting "Rampage!" from their Honor Band experience, and "Play that Funky Music" from this year's parade tunes. They plan to throw in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" for an encore.

This year's WHS Chorus is an impressive act. They sing beautifully acapella (without accompaniment) on "Star Spangled Banner", "Down to the River" from "O Brother Where Art Thou", and the Glee hit "Don't Stop Believin'". Also, from their successful festival trip this year, they'll perform "Under the Boardwalk" with a guitar background. And the finale will be Glee's mashup of Rhianna's "Under my Umbrella" with the great old dance tune "Singin' in the Rain".

Admission is free, and the concert starts at 7 p.m. The groups are directed by Brad Green.
