Weather Helps Valley Golfers

March 31, 2011

DAYTON - The weather finally cooperated for Touchet Valley's high school golfers last week. The Dayton and WP teams hosted Tri-Cities Prep, DeSales and Liberty Christian golfers here at the Touchet Valley Golf Course last Friday for the third match of the season.

"This was probably the best weather we have had this season in Dayton," said Dayton/ WP head coach Mike McGhan. "The course was in great shape for this time of the year."

That's not to say the course wasn't challenging at times.

"There was a lot of competitive golf today," McGhan said .

On the nine-hole, par 36 course, top scorers were De- Sales golfer Ryan Baumgart, who had the best record with 38, followed by Colin Price of TCP with 42. Dayton senior Dain Henderson and TCP player Tommy Windish tied with 43.

Other men's scores for Dayton were Jaron Button 48, Tim Ihle 64, Mohannad Owiwi 68, and Andre Fayette 74.

Golfing for Waitsburg- Prescott was Dakota Baker, who scored 48.

In the women's competition, top scorers were all visiting golfers: Alexis Armijo from TCP with 48, Ashton Montgomery from DeSales with 58, and Alyssa Lyons, also of DeSales, with 60.

Dayton seniors Molly Payne, Abby Chapman and Kyla Ihle scored 62, 66 and 71 respectively.

"Our inexperienced kids are improving," McGhan said. "Before the season, I thought I would have only one male golfer (Henderson), so I am pleased to have some more boys turn out this year. The girls' team from last year lost two golfers who moved out of the district and one who did not turn out, so we are struggling to fill a team."

Also last week, Touchet Valley golfers traveled to Canyon Lakes Golf Course, in Kennewick, were they competed against TCP, De- Sales and Liberty Christian. This nine-hole, par 36 event took place on Tuesday, March 22.

Dayton men's scores were: Dain Henderson 47, Jaron Button 50, Andre Fayette 69, Tim Ihle 74, and Mohannad Owiwi 77. Waitsburg-Prescott's Dakota Baker scored 46.

Dayton women's scores were: Abby Chapman 60, Molly Payne 67, and Kyla Ihle 70.
