2-26: Eluding/DUI/Resisting Arrest. A Walla Walla County Sheriff's Deputy, traveling westbound on Lower Waitsburg Road near Prescott, spotted a burgundy Ford Mustang traveling southbound at 76 miles per hour on the 50-mph roadway. He pursued, using lights and siren, but the car did not stop. It turned onto N. Valley Grove then left the roadway and traveled in a stubble field. The deputy, finding a field road not too soft to support his patrol vehicle, continued pursuit. The Mustang driver, an older male, finally spun around, looked right at the deputy, and took off again. He entered Spring Valley Road with the deputy right behind him. Before reaching Highway 125, the driver turned around in a yard and headed back southbound on Spring Valley. He entered a stubble field again and finally got stuck going up a steep hill. His car had a broken tire rod. The driver, a man from Walla Walla according to the police report, abandoned his vehicle and was picked up down the road by deputies. He continued to resist arrest but was finally taken to jail, where he refused to cooperate with the DUI test. The deputy reported the driver's "teeth were purple in color and there was a very strong, distinct odor of intoxicants coming from his breath."
