  • Dena Wood: Out and About

    Feb 27, 2014

WAITSBURG - I have no delusions of being 'Smarter than a Fifth Grader.' In fact, if you read the Feb. 13 issue of The Times, you're probably aware that even a third grade assessment posed somewhat of a challenge. Be that as it may, I was in no way deterred from spending Monday morning in the company of some of the brightest teens around. The Regional Knowledge Bowl meet was taking place at Waitsburg High School and I wanted to find out firsthand if Waitsburg would be attending State for the f...

  • Dena Wood: Out and About

    Feb 6, 2014

We had a weekend guest recently. This particular guest was loud, demanding and wreaked havoc on our weekend plans. Everything revolved around him. I'd been in favor of him staying with us but, frankly, I wasn't sad to see him go. Yes, we just finished up our weekend hosting "Baby Think It Over." One might consider it more accurate to say that my son finished up his weekend with the baby, but the babe affected us all. Babies are like that. "Baby Think It Over" is an infant simulator aimed at...

  • FFA Hosts Pet Food Drive for Black Dog Rescue

    Jan 30, 2014

WAITSBURG - Pam Alexenko was more than frustrated when she found paw prints through the caramel candy she'd made for a fundraiser and left cooling on the porch. That frustration quickly turned to concern when her son, Zac, spotted a half-starved kitten hiding in some foam. "Its feet were frostbitten and swollen to about three times their normal size," said Pam. "It still makes me angry." The Alexenkos warmed the friendly feline, fed her and took her to Black Dog Rescue at the hardware store. "She spent a few days at the vet and she's bounced...
