White wheat bids in Portland for late September (4 months ago) were close to $6.30 per bushel (Chicago was at $6.40). This week the bid is about $6.33 for white (Chicago $6.16). We arrived early on the bus from Bainbridge Island. The Crystal Mountain parking was already starting to fill up. Through the wind and driving snow, hundreds of skiers were arriving at the base of the giant mountain to enjoy several feet of new snow that had fallen at the tail end of last week's winter storm. Dear Editor: As the Administrator for the City of Waitsburg, I would like to address Mr. Ming's letter about the city. First, the city has not yet implemented either a car tab or sales tax increase. If implemented, however, the city would only be asking for a $10 car tab fee on vehicles registered in the city limits or a 1/10 of 1 percent sales tax increase (which has to be approved by the citizens of Waitsburg); not both, and not $20 and 2/10 of 1 percent as Mr. Ming's implies.
