WAITSBURG - Kathy Carpenter and her team at the Cardinal's Nest in Waitsburg make sure kids have a place to go after school where they can get homework help and do fun projects. Carpenter, the director, said the Cardinal's Nest afterschool program was funded by a No Child Left Behind 21st Century Community Centers grant through the federal government. The W-P Cardinals may not have shown up during Saturday's semifinals at Lampson Stadium until the third quarter when they finally scored against the Broncos. But we're deeply proud that they showed up consistently during the rest of the season and got the combine to this point for the third year in a row. WAITSBURG - When you mix turkey bingo, a dash of Christmas shopping, a visit with Santa Claus and a lighted parade you get Waitsburg's favorite way to ring in the holiday season. The annual Hometown Christmas events begin this Saturday and run through Monday night.
