    WAITSBURG -- Waits­burg Elementary will hold kindergarten registration for the fall of 2014 during the week of March 31 - April 3. Registration will be in the Elementary office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. All children who turn five, on or before August 31 are eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2014.     WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg 7-8th grade band traveled to Asotin on March 21 where they earned a Su­perior (I) rating in the Mass Band Festival. The band per­formed three songs: "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got that Swing," "Tunbridge Overture," and "Forge of Vulcan." All 38 band mem­bers were in attendance. "The judges and the au­dience really liked them. They were outstanding!" said Band Director Brad Green.     DAYTON - A Dayton man who has been charged with first degree rape of a child appeared in court last week. According to the Columbia County Prosecutor's Office, Walter Hartwell is scheduled to go to trial April 22 and 23. Hartwell was arrested last month and charged with initiating sexual contact with an 11-year-old child. He is being held in the Columbia County jail, with bond set at $100,000.     DAYTON - Residents of Columbia County will soon have several safe and secure places to dispose of un­wanted prescription drugs.
