March 27, 2014

Dayton's Lexie Ward shows off her pitching style in win over Touchet.

DAYTON - The Lady 'Dawgs Softball team faced the Touchet Indians, overcoming 6 errors to bring home a 4-3 win, at the March 20 home game.

Lexus Ward pitched the game with Madison Mings catching The 'Dawgs were up 3-2 going into the seventh inning. Touchet's Jennifer Aceves led off to get on base due to an infield error, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Touchet's Melissa Creek hit a pop-up to shallow left and Aceves tagged up to score the tie run. A groundout to pitcher ended the inning for Touchet.

The Dawg's last inning began with Mia Becker taking a hit by a pitch and walking first. Becker stole second and made third on a single by Hanna Becker. With two on and no outs, Kellie Moore hit to short stop. Mia Becker scored the winning run, beating the fielder's throw to home.

"This was a pretty even matchup today," said Dayton Assistant Coach Desirae Jones. "All three [Touchet] pitchers threw well. Our defense struggled, allowing six errors, which we will really need to improve before league starts."

Sarah Phillips had three steals for the day. Lexus Ward had four strikeouts and two walks. Touchet struck out eight Dayton batters, allowed five walks and one hit by pitch.
