“PINK OUT” RAISES $1,930 FOR MENDOZA FAMILY

October 30, 2014

A smiling team of Cardinal volleyball players surround Berenice Mendoza and her family as they award her with a "check" during Thursday's volleyball game against Dayton.

WAITSBURG - The Dayton Bulldogs and WP Cardinal volleyball players forfeited their traditional crimson and white warm-ups in favor of pink at last Thursday's game in Waitsburg. Fans on both sides got in on the act as well - donning pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness and to raise funds for Prescott's Berenice Mendoza who is battling the disease.

WP coach Angie Potts said it meant a lot for her team to play hard since Berenice was in attendance at the game. The Cards lost, but fought hard and played well. A total of $1930 was raised for the family through T-shirt sales, a "pink" bake sale and conations. "Community members were very generous with their donations and we appreciate all the support," said Potts.

Mendoza addressed the team on Facebook saying, "Thank you for the support and all the things you do for me and my family. All you guys are wonderful. I liked your game. I feel special and happy - for me you are always winners."
