Visiting the "Crossroads of the World" over Thanksgiving was Cadet Aryn Davis, her Grandfather Glynn Davis and Glynn's wife Beverly. The Davis's granddaughter is a cadet at West Point and traveled to New York City to not only spend Thanksgiving with her and other family, but also had the happy coincidence of Glynn's brother, Gary, also visiting the city on business so –a good time was had by all.

Twenty Five Years Ago-December 2, 1993

It is underneath our feet every day. Cities buy it by the ton, spending thousands of dollars each year. It is something we never think about until we run out, and the potholes in our roads and alleys grow deeper. We take it for granted, indeed. It is gravel. And, somebody has to make it. Recently George Gagnon spent a week taking photos of a gravel-making operation near Dayton, from beginning to end. His photos show the blasting of the Columbia County-run Gaines quarry site on Thorn Hollow Road.

Waitsburg is still looking for volunteers who will allow the city to test their drinking water for free. Public works manager Dan Katsel said this week that 14 people in Waitsburg had signed up for the testing program. About 25 sites are needed. Federal clean water law requires the city to test for copper and lead in fresh drinking water.

Toni Jones, a sophomore, and Ryan Jacoy were named queen and king, respectively, at the Harvest Ball of the FFA in Waitsburg recently. Members of the court were seniors Rachel Halley and Alta Miller, junior Rhionna Smith, and freshman Lindey Middleton. Escorts for the court were Jerome Leroue, George Van Horn, Ellis Erikson and Todd Hawkins. The royalty and other Waitsburg High School students attended the annual Harvest dance in the grade school.

Fifty Years Ago-December 5, 1968

Photo caption: A proud new Touchet Valley Jr. Miss is Rita Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Thomas of Prescott. Rita played her guitar and sang two folk songs as her talent last Saturday evening. She will go to Pullman for the Washington State Pageant in January.

Local game protector E. M. "Red" Mohney told the Times this week that beginning on Monday, December 9, certain ranches in the area will be the sites of coyote poison stations. Dog owners on neighboring farms are requested to watch their pets carefully so that they do not have access to this lethal meat. Stations will be on the Jim Archer and Don Hinchliffe farms near Waitsburg, Leo Harting, Ken Literal, Albert Laib, Walter Eaton of Dayton.

Seventy Five Years Ago-Dec 10, 1943

E. J. Call, 71, a resident of this community, passed away Thursday morning. He had served as Mayor of Waitsburg continuously since 1936.

Kenneth Hays, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hays is being worked at center of pre-season contests with the U. of Oregon basketball squad, he has been termed a "dream-player" by the Portland Oregonian, 'standing 6'7 inches and weighing 190 and if that isn't enough, he's in 4F."

Helen Lloyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. GM Lloyd, was named on the varsity debate team which will open the season Dec 3-4 with Linfield College. Helen is a sophomore majoring in general at W.S.C.

One Hundred Years Ago-Dec 13, 1918

Among Waitsburg Honored pioneers are Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Ingraham who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary recently. They moved to Waitsburg in 1890.

Miss Ruth Cole, of Sylvan, Fox Island, Wash. and Mrs. Eileen Clancy of Portland arrived home last Thursday to be with their father, D. J. Cole, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident.

Listed in this issue of the Waitsburg Times were the names of 175 Waitsburg boys in the service of the Nation. Pictured were Dallas Miller and Samuel Southard, who had been killed in action.

Cleve Houtchens has moved his family in from the ranch for the winter, and has accepted a position in the grocery department of the Waitsburg Mercantile Co.

One Hundred Fifty Years Ago-Dec 15, 1893

The talent of Waitsburg men is appreciated in the larger cities. E. L. Powell is mayor of Spokane, and T. C. Taylor is Mayor of Pendelton, Oregon.

J. N. Todd and William Chenowith made a flying trip to the Flat this week, shot a few flying geese on the fly and then flied home again. Fly fliers are they.

An ounce of keep-your-mouth shut is worth a pound of explanation.

Ten bids were put in for carrying mail between the post office and railroad depots in this city.
