Artist Vivian Eslick's painting of Dayton's Boldman House, in the collection of the Late Darlene Broughton, and now on display at the Dayton Historic Depot.

DAYTON-The Dayton Historical Depot Society is currently showing a collection of 10 paintings and drawings that were owned by late Darlene Broughton. They are on display on the first floor at the Dayton Historic Depot until the end of the month.

The watercolor, oil, and pen and ink drawings depict a few of the many historic buildings in Dayton.

Works created by local and regional artists Vivian Eslick, Richard Hashagen, Mary Ann Nyborg, Gerald Snapp, Patti Eaton, John Remington and Lucy Jones are featured in the collection.

"The result is a stunning collection of paintings and drawings," said Museum Director Tamara Fritze. "This exhibit celebrates Broughton's passion for Dayton and its historic architecture."

Fritze said Broughton was one of the Dayton Historical Depot Society's founding members, and she was instrumental in helping raise funds for the Depot restoration in the 1970s.

"She was a warm, energetic woman, who was well loved by all in the community," Fritze said. "She was an eager volunteer, always ready to help, and always willing to listen. Her sense of humor could lighten the room. She moved through life with grace and compassion, and she is missed by all of us."

Each painting is numbered and will be featured in the auction booklet, when the collection is sold with Broughton's estate later this month.

Fritze said the Depot Society is grateful to Broughton's son Jay for sharing the collection with the public.

The Depot is located at 222 E Commercial St. The museum is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
