DAYTON--Because he is already a Certified Patrol Officer Connor Ehr will be patrolling Columbia county roads, as soon as he goes through orientation, and gets his new uniform, he said.

"Luckily I don't have to go back to Academy. This will cut a lot of time for the Department," said Ehr.

After graduating from Richland High School in 2010, Ehr said he did a short stint as a new housing plumber in the Tri-Cities before joining the Army.

Ehr's basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he was a heavy truck driver and instructor. In 2014 he began serving as part of the 1161st National Guard, in Ephrata, Wash., and still does, he said.

Ehr has worked in Walla Walla as a County Corrections Officer, in Richland as a nuclear security officer with Energy Northwest, and with the City of Yakima, where he received his Patrol Certification in 2016.

Ehr said he passed through Dayton, many times, on his way to visit his grandmother in Clarkston, and thought it would be fun to live here.

"I like small communities – the quiet, and how welcoming everybody is. This is a big change for me coming from a place like Yakima," said Ehr.

Ehr was hired by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office on July 16, leaving only one position yet to be filled: that of undersheriff.
