DAYTON – Beginning Thursday night and running for two weekends, the Liberty Theater lifts the curtain on this year's May Melodrama, "A Bad Day at Gopher's Breath."

The setting is the Old West. The notorious Rawlins gang is getting ready to ride into Gopher's Breath to rob the bank. Never particularly adept in their careers as outlaws, the gang is finding success particularly difficult this time around, with the town's corrupt sheriff also in pursuit of the loot. Thrown into the mix are a bounty hunter after Sheriff Crutchwaffle, Temperance Union workers striving to bring prohibition to the town, and perhaps most troublesome...Rawhide Rawlins's growing affection for the banker's niece.

The fun never ends in this melodrama with over the top characters and plot twists. Riddled with all the traditional clichés of the classic western, Gopher's Breath becomes the setting for hilarious happenings you won't want to miss.

"A Bad Day at Gopher's Breath" was written by Al Ver Schure and Lee Ver Schure, and was published in 1975. The Liberty Theater production is directed by Bret and Bethany Moser. It features a cast of more than 20 local actors, led by Jim Edwards as Sheriff Amos Crutchwaffle, Angi Crow as Belle Durham, Kavin Kuykendall as Ralph "Rawhde" Rawlins, Meghan Bromley as Bambi Sweetwater and Kyle Terry as Fat Jack Caldwell.

"A Bad Day at Gopher's Breath" kicks off with a Family Night Premiere on Thursday. All seats to this show are $10. Seat prices for all other shows in the run range from $10-$15. Performances are at 7 p.m. on May 10, 11, 12, 18 and 19, and at 3 p.m. on May 13 and 20.
