DW Girls Get Three Non-League Wins

Dayton-Waitsburg cruised to 14-3 win over Defending State Champ Pomeroy

 


DAYTON – Pomeroy got an early 2-0 lead after a first-inning home run against the Dayton-Waitsburg softball team on Friday in Dayton, but it was all DW after that.

The home team scored 10 times in the first two innings and cruised to a mercy-rule-shortened 14-3 victory after five.

DW had 18 hits for the day, including three each by Hanna Becker, Scully Castorena, Megan Robins, Ariel Sandau and Heidi Dobbs. Robins pitched an outstanding complete game, giving up only three hits.

DW over Mabton, 20-2, 19-1

MABTON – The DW softball team traveled to Mabton on Saturday, and took two easy wins in double-header play, 20-2 and 19-1. Both games ended after four innings on the15-run mercy rule.

In game one, DW jumped to a 7-0 lead after the first inning, and scored at least four runs in each of the next three. DW built their lead to 20-0 before Mabton got two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

DW collected 24 hits, including three each by Ariel Sandau and McKenzie Dobbs. Scully Castorena had an in-the-park home run in the first inning.

Freshman Sadie Seney pitched three shutout innings, and fellow freshman Teagan Larsen closed out the game. DW gave up a total of three hits.

In the second game, DW took a 5-0 lead into the third inning before notching 12 more in that frame and taking a big 19-1 victory. That game also was mercy-ruled after four innings.

DW had 23 hits on the game, including four by Neylan Bryan and three each by Tatumn Laughery, Elise Russell, Hanna Becker, Kylee Laughlin and Cassidy Laughery. Castorena and Heidi Dobbs pitched two innings each and gave up a total of four hits.

DW returns after spring break with a game in Waitsburg against Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat on April 14.
