DAYTON-Kristie Korslund was hired in February to take over for Vicki Zoller, who took a job in the county's Emergency Management Services Department in January. While Korslund is performing many of Zoller's outreach duties, she is also helping with the after school programs and providing general customer service.

Korslund is also in charge of the Bookmobile, and will be taking books to the senior center every month, beginning in April. She said working at the library is a good fit for her.

"I have a love of books. One of my hobbies is reading," she said. "Plus, I like being involved in the community."

Korslund grew up in Walla Walla and attended Eastern Washington University. She said that though her degree is in recreational therapy, she has gravitated toward libraries, most recently working at the Whitman County Library in Colfax.

Korslund, her husband, Sam, and their two children, Garrett, 15, and Nolan, 12, are in the process of moving to Dayton, from Colfax. Sam Korslund is the lead pastor at the Catalyst Church campus in Dayton, Korslund said.

Andrew Price has been a Dayton Library page since 2015. He is now working as a Library Assistant.

"It was a pretty easy transition," said Price. "I'm doing the stuff I used to do as a page."

Price said he is also in charge of the library's STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).

Last month's program emphasized science and engineering, said Price. Students made motorized Ferris wheels out of popsicle sticks, to test whether the larger ones would spin faster than the smaller ones. The emphasis for on April's STEAM program will be on technology.

Price said he plans to work at the library an additional one-and-a-half years, but hopes to get into the illustrated digital graphic field.

"This last summer I started doodling on a graphic tablet. Even today it's something I want to do," he said.

Price is a high school senior at Walla Walla Community College's Running Start/Washington State Virtual Academy, and he will graduate in August.
