WAITSBURG – The Dayton-Waitsburg football team lost its fifth game of the season here Friday night, falling to Lyle-Wishram, 46-6.

DW started out strong, stopping L-W on its first drive and returning a blocked punt to the L-W 11-yard line. Running back Chris Philbrook punched the ball in from the two to give DW an early 6-0 lead.

L-W got their first score late in the first quarter, to tie the game at six. The flood gates opened in the second quarter, as L-W scored 34 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.

Once again, turnovers plagued DW, as quarterback Brayden Miller threw two pass interceptions, and the team lost four fumbles. L-W did not commit a turnover.

Miller was five-for-13 passing. Philbrook had a strong running game, gaining 70 yards on 20 carries. Junior Helm gained 23 yards on four carries. Brandon Boudrieau led the receivers with a 20-yard reception.

On defense, Colton Johnson had 11 tackles, Jack Willis had 10, including a sack, and Philbrook had nine. Joe LaRue also had a sack.

DW travels to Mabton Friday night for a seven-o'clock game.
