Waitsburg's Landon Callas lunges across the finish line to win the 100 meter race ahead of Dayton's Chris Andrews, at the Dayton meet last week.

Cardinals Callas and Adams get three individual wins each

DAYTON Dayton hosted local schools in a track and field meet last Tuesday. The Waitsburg boys dominated the meet and won the team competition with 172 points, with its nearest competitor, St. John-Endicott scoring 120 points. The Dayton boys came in third with 106 points.

On the girl's side, Oaksdale easily won with a score of 266 points, followed by Pomeroy with 172. The Waitsburg girls scored 124 points to secure the third position out of 7 teams in the meet, with Dayton coming in sixth with 22 points.

Waitsburg's Landon Callas won the 100 Meter dash with a personal record of 11.30, and the 100 meter hurdles at 15.40, and the 300 hurdles at 39.96. Callas is ranked first in the state for 1B classification in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Dayton's Hayden Wooldridge was second in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 45.59. Cal Martin of Dayton scored a season best in the javelin with a throw of 152-08. Chris Andrews came in second behind Callas in the 100m with a time of 11.96.

More personal and season bests were tallied by the Waitsburg team. Joe Leamy placed second with a season record in the 200 meter with a time of 25.24 and a second season best in the 100m with a time of 12.28 to earn 5th place.

TJ Morrison ran a personal best of 12.90 in the 100-meter dash to place 8th. Seamus House had a great day as well, placing second in the 800m run with a time of 2:35.21 and first in the 3200m with a PR time of 11:50.81.

"Daltin (Lambert) and Seamus battled each other down the last 100m, it was fun to watch. They both gave a strong effort, very happy to see that this time in the season," said Waitsburg Assistant Coach Ann Adams.

Lambert placed second in the 3200m with a huge PR time of 11:51.0. He also ran the 100m dash with a PR time of 13.40, placing 10th.

The boys 4x400 team of Andre Potts, Joe Leamy, TJ Morrison, and Landon Callas took first, chasing down DeSales and passing them in the last 100 meters. Potts had a streak of third place in his jumps, third in the high jump with a height of 5'4", third in the long jump with a distance of 17-7.5, and third in the triple jump with a jump of 36' 2".

For the Waitsburg girls, Emily Adams continued to dominate the long-distance events, long jump and the triple jump. She won the 1600 with a PR at 5:25.00, and won the both the long jump and triple jump with 14-05.50 and 32-08.50 respectively. Emily placed second in the 400 meters, with a personal record of 1:01.62.

Adams is currently ranked first in the state for 1B in the 800 Meters and 1600 meters, and fourth in the Triple jump.

"With only three events between, (400 meters and 1600 meters) this is very hard. The 400m dash is a full sprint around the track. Emily was tough, that is good to see," said Coach Adams.

Kailyn Lewis ran the 100m dash, placing second with a PR of 14.31, the 100m hurdles with another PR of 19.31 and third place.

Kirsten Miller placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a PR time of 19.49, third in the high jump, with a height of 4'0", and then second in the 300m hurdles with a huge PR time of 52.62.

"Very impressive after her fall at Stranderg last weekend. I was a little nervous that she would be shy of the hurdles after that fall, but she wasn't and ran very well," said Waitsburg Head Coach Lanny Adams of Miller.

Dayton will compete at the EWAC Championships on Friday at College Place high school at 3:00. Results for Waitsburg from the NE/SE district championships held Tuesday were unavailable at press time.
