Dayton Girls Drop Two to Desales

Lady Bulldogs lose first-game heart-breaker in extra innings, 7-5; drop second game, 12-6.

 


DAYTON – The Dayton softball team hosted Desales in a double-header Friday, and lost both games, 7-5 and 12-6.

The first game was a hard-fought battle, with the lead changing throughout the game, before the Lady Bulldogs fell, 7-5, in nine innings.

Dayton tied the score at three after five innings, but Desales brought in two runs in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Destiny Brincken got on base on an error. Tatumn Laughery then bunted for a base hit. After an out, Heidi Dobbs grounded out to first, advancing the runners. With runners on second and third, and two out, Megan Robins hit a single to right, bringing in both runners to tie it up at five, sending the game into extra innings.

After no score in the eighth inning, DeSales got a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t bring them in, giving DeSales the win.


In the game, Tatumn Laughery went three-for-three, and scored three times. Heidi Dobbs had 3 RBIs.

In the second game DeSales jumped ahead early and kept the lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 3-2 in the first inning and adding 6 more in the second inning. Dayton fought back, scoring 2 runs in the sixth and seventh but it was too much to make up.  

Mia Becker went three-for-three, with three runs scored. Dobbs, Castorena and Robins had 2 RBI’s each.

“I was proud of the resilience of the Bulldogs; they fought hard in all 16 innings,” said Dayton assistant coach Desirae Jones. The Lady Bulldogs are now 0-2 in league, 1-4 overall.
