City Asks for Community Input Into 20-Year Vision

Two community workshops and an online survey will help with comp plan update

DAYTON—Residents in Dayton will have several opportunities to provide the city with ideas for what Dayton will look like in 2039, as part of the city’s comprehensive plan update.

The city is sponsoring two workshops to give the community a chance to chime in on what they like about Dayton, what should be retained, and what new ideas, or goals, they would like to see implemented in twenty years’ time, said City Planner Karen Scharer.

There is also a survey online for people who are unable to attend the workshops.

Scharer said the reason for the workshops and survey is to take an inventory of where the city is going, and how to get there.

The information from the workshops and survey is just one of many tools that will help the city in its comprehensive plan update. Information from the 2016 Community Conversations, regional and county-wide goals, the community Economic Development Steering Committee, and other planning processes will also be utilized.

“The state Department of Commerce requires a periodic update of the Comprehensive Plan, typically every eight years. The last update was in 2008,” said Scharer about her department’s compliance with the Growth Management Act.

Workshops will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish at 112 S 1st Street, on April 27 and May 4, from 6 - 8 p.m. The online survey can be taken at http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DRNPRMV

Scharer invites you to follow the progress of the overarching plan by searching 2019 comprehensive plan update at http://www.daytonwa.com
