A Hometown Holiday

2017 Celebration Days Queen Cheyanne Shoun snuck away from her queenly duties long enough to sneak in a quick visit and photo with Santa at The Q on Main Street.

WAITSBURG - Neither sleet nor rain could keep Waitsburg townfolk from enjoying the city's annual Hometown Christmas celebration last weekend. Visitors filled Town Hall to listen to local musicians, enjoy a meal or Christmas cookie, and browse the many tables of wares for sale. About 60 children (and an adult or two) found their way to Santa's lap where they shared their Christmas wish list, got their picture taken, and received a goodie bag, courtesy of the Waitsburg Commercial Club. Children enjoyed decorating cookies and Christmas ornaments with Waitsburg Celebration Days royalty, Emily Adams and Cheyanne Shoun.

Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days board member Stan Bly, accompanied by fair royalty, waved to the crowd during Sunday evening's lighted parade.

Waitsburg's Main Street and Preston Avenue were lined with trees creatively decorated by civic groups, businesses, and families. The trees were part of the Waitsburg FFA Chapter's annual Festival of Trees fundraiser. This year's Judge's Choice tree went to Laht Neppur Brewery who decorated their tree with labels proclaiming, "Drink to Life." Karl Law Office's floral patriotic tree won the People's Choice award.

Following an hour long drawing of door prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, festivities took to the streets for the Parade of Lights while the WHS band performed in front of the Plaza Theater.

The weekend wrapped up with as parade goers warmed their hands and filled their tummies at the Bill Thompson Memorial Chili Feed.
