Touchet Valley Golf Course in Summer

DAYTON – The Touchet Valley Golf Course's annual leagues are under way as the summer draws nearer. The greens are looking great, and it is shaping up to be a good course for those looking to hit the links this summer.

The Men's and Women's league that compete at the course meet once a week, with the Men participating on Thursdays and the Women taking their swings on Mondays. They both start play at 5 p.m. each week. Also available is the Ladies' golf group that plays at 10 a.m. every Monday.

While it is too late for individuals to enter the leagues, Manager Roger Trump said that there is a possibility for team competition on Wednesday nights if there is sufficient interest. A second league session could be formed following the completion of the first league season, which ends the week after the Fourth of July. This would also be dependent on community and participant interest.

The course is also hosting a club tournament this summer, which is for Touchet Valley Golf Club members only. However, for a $40 membership fee, interested golfers can join the club before the tournament in order to be eligible for participation. The tournament will be a Match Play style tournament held in July, and will be composed of 1-on-1 rounds between opponents.

There will be no Touchet Valley Ryder Cup this year. Trump said that the annual tournament will likely be held again next year.

The course will hold the annual All Wheels Weekend Men & Women's Golf Tournament on Father's Day. There is a sign-up sheet at the golf course restaurant. The tournament starts at 9 a.m., and holds a $10 per person entrance fee. It is a nine-hole, two-person, non-handicap scramble. A putting contest will also be held, with a chance for a $10,000 prize on the line.

Trump, when asked about the course, praised the condition of the putting greens this year. "The greens have improved a lot over the past few years," said Trump. A work party made up of mostly club members worked on resodding and getting the greens ready, added Trump.

The course is open year round, and is available for use every day. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m.. to 2 p.m. There are both single day rates for nine and 18-hole rounds, as well as membership and green fees for golfers. Prices are cheaper on weekdays as compared to weekends for nine and 18 hole nonmember fees.
