Cardinals Knock Off Jaguars, Fall to Asotin, DeSales

PASCO – Waitsburg boys went on the road Saturday night and took a victory from Tri-Cities Prep, 54-46. At press time, the Cardinals were 10-8 overall and 5-5 in SE 2B League play.

The Cardinals had a balanced offensive attack, with four starters scoring in double figures. Kyle Gradwohl led his team with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Jacob Dunn had 13 points, Landon Callas had 12, including two treys, and Jason Carter scored 11. Dunn also pulled down 11 rebounds. Carter had 10 assists.

The Cardinals were down 24-20 at the half, but outscored the Jaguars 15-5 in the third quarter to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Waitsburg was to travel to Prescott to take on the Tigers Tuesday night, and then will host Dayton Friday night to complete league play.

WAITSBURG – The Cardinal boys hosted Asotin Friday night, but were no match for the league-leading Panthers, falling 67-38.

Asotin jumped out to a 20-10 first-quarter lead and never looked back. After trailing 34-22 at the half, the Cardinals were outscored in the second half, 33-16. The Panthers burned Waitsburg for nine three-point shots.

Mark Montgomery led the Cardinals with 10 points. He also pulled down 11 rebounds. Jacob Dunn scored nine.

WAITSBURG – The DeSales Irish withstood a big third-quarter rally by the Cardinal boys to hold off Waitsburg for a win on Jan. 26, 47-43.

After trailing 26-17 at the half, the Cardinals outscored the Irish 15-7 in the third quarter to pull within one at the break, 33-32. But Waitsburg couldn't make the sale, and ended up falling by four.

Kyle Gradwohl scored nine points, and Mark Montgomery knocked down eight to pace the Cardinals.
