Cardinals Drop Squeaker to Pirates

Waitsburg boys can't hold halftime lead in 41-39 loss at home

WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg boys' basketball team was edged by Pomeroy in a hard-fought battle Saturday night, 41-39. The result was a big improvement over the Cardinals' loss in December in Pomeroy, 70-51.

After trailing 12-5 at the first-quarter break, the Cardinals rode a 17-8 second quarter to take a 22-20 lead into halftime. The game was tied at 30 after three, but the home team couldn't pull it out in the end.

For the game, Kyle Gradwohl led the Cardinals with 11 points, including two three-pointers. Mark Montgomery and Jason Carter each had eight. Montgomery also pulled down 14 rebounds....
