Project Timoth volunteers put together 85 Christmas Dinner boxes for families in need this year.

DAYTON – The Wenaha Gallery, located on Dayton's Main Street, devotes every January to a food drive supporting Dayton's community food bank. Each year, people from within and outside the community donate hundreds of pounds of food to the effort.

The food bank is just one of the projects supported by Project Timothy, an ecumenical ministry spearheaded by St. Joseph Parish in Dayton and St. Mark Parish in Waitsburg, and aided by a number of other area churches.

The volunteer-based ministry operates with funds donated by individuals, private groups, Catholic Charities of Spokane, and grants. The Project Timothy office is located inside St. Vencent de Paul at 249 Main St. in Dayton.

In addition to supporting the food bank, Project Timothy provides emergency housing, rental assistance, help with utilities, food vouchers, bus passes, swim passes and more, for the families from Dayton, Waitsburg and Starbuck that seek its aid each year.

This Christmas, Project Timothy provided 85 Christmas dinner baskets to families in need.

"Project Timothy works very hard to be good stewards of the money entrusted to us by our donors and grants to help those in need," said board president Terri Schlachter.

Donations for the Community Food Bank may be dropped off at the Wenaha Gallery, located at 219 E. Main Street, throughout the month of January. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon. – Sat.
