Lady Cards Win One, Lose One

Waitsburg takes Asotin, but falls to Tri-Cities Prep

WAITSBURG – The Lady Cardinals traveled to Asotin on Tues., Sept. 22 where they dropped the Panthers in three sets, 25-18, 15-17, 15-17. On Thursday, they played Tri-Cities Prep on their home court, falling in three sets: 11-25, 11-25, 10-25.

“Overall we played pretty well,” said Coach Angie Potts, about the Asotin game. “There were a few moments that we let up and gave Asotin the opportunity to score some points but the girls were able to regain their focus and finish each set strong.”

Stat leaders against Asotin were Ariel Sandau with 11 assists, two kills, one block; Bailey Adams with three kills; Caitlin Mohney with four kills; Devon Harshman with three kids, two blocks; Jade Alleman with three kills; and Taylor Hays with eight digs.

“Tri-Cities Prep served very aggressive and we struggled with passing.  Passing has been a strength for us in every match until this one.  We’ll need to add another element to our practice so that we’re more prepared,” said Potts.

“Defensively I thought the girls played really well.  They dug some hard hit balls and didn’t give up on making plays.  Our blocking at the net improved.  Devon, Jade Alleman, Anissa Holmberg, Taylor Hays, and Tayler Jones were all able to get their hands on the ball to slow down the hits and make them easier to play,” she added.

Stat leaders for the TCP match were Adams with seven digs; Caitlin Mohney with eight digs, Catilyn Jones with six digs; Tayler Jones with two kills; and Harshman with four blocks.

The Lady Cards play DeSales on the Irish court on Tues, Sept. 20 followed by a home match against Prescott on Oct. 1.
