Landon Callas keeps to the head of the pack during the Inland Empire XC Klassic on Saturday.

The Cardinals had a great race despite the heat at the Big Cross meet in Pasco on Wed., Sept. 23, said Coach Ann Adams. Landon Callas ran the hilly, sandy 5k course in 18:32, a PR for the course. His time earned him 3rd place, as he passed another runner at the finish line.

Skylar Wood tackled the course in 21:29 for a 11th place finish. It was a tough race for him but he pushed through and finished faster than last year at this time in the season. Next across the line was Joe Leamy with a finishing time of 22:38 and 17th place, almost a minute faster than last year. Tom House followed with a time of 23:04 and 21st place. Tom ran strong and finished hard, Adams said.

Korben Duffy, running his first race of the season finished strong with a time of 23:15 and 22nd place. Seventh grader Koby Harris got to run with the highschool team, no middle school race. He did a great job completing the 5k race.

For the girls, Emily Adams ran a strong race with a finishing time of 20:23, and a first place win

On Sat., Sept. 26 the team competed at the Lewis and Clark State College Inland Empire XC Klassic.

"Emily Adams ran a phenomenal race. After getting caught in a bottleneck at the start, she passed about 14 other girls to finish 3rd with a time of 19:29 on the 5k course," said Coach Adams.

"I felt strong and it felt great to run! This is my biggest PR yet and one I have been after since my freshman year," said Emily.

Callas also had a great race, finishing with a time of 17:58 and 37th place in the field of 125. He ran solid and fished strong with a hard kick to the finish. Leamy fought two other runners to the finish and persevered to end with a time of 22:17 and 114th.

In the middle school race, Harris ran strong for a finishing time of 14:26 for the 3k course and 33 in a field of 53. "He is improving everyday and ran very well today," said Adams.

The Cardinal's next race is Sat., Oct. 3 at Big Cross in Pasco. Race times and directions can be found online at athletic.net.
