Waitsburg Pool Update

The Waitsburg City Pool, with a newly replaced liner, will open for business at 1 p.m. on June 15. Lifeguards for the 2015 swim season are Paige Wood, Devin Newman, Caitlyn Jones, Cameron Terry and Tayler Jones.

Pool Hours are Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Lap swim is Tuesday and Thursday from 5-6 p.m.

An anonymous donor has provided funds to cover staffing so that the pool can be open on Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. The donor hopes to provide an opportunity for parents, who work during the week, to enjoy the pool as a family on Saturdays.

The daily swim fee is $2, which includes both daytime and evening swim sessions. Individual passes are $40 and a family pass is $80. Family passes are limited to five people, with additional family members added at $10/per person. Passes may be purchased at City Hall (147 Main).

Swim lessons are offered in two-week sessions, running Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The first session will run July 14 through 24.

Times for lessons are: Level 4: 11-11:30 a.m .; Level 3: 11:30 – noon; Level 2: Noon-12:30 p.m .; Level 1: 12:30 p.m. – 1 p.m.

Classes are limited to 10 participants and are filled on a first-come, first serve basis. Register at City Hall or call Kelly at (509) 337-6371.

Children must be at least 3 years old, able to hang onto the edge of the pool for an extended period of time, and able to follow instructions.

A second session, if demand warrants, will be held July 28 – Aug. 7. An endowment from Friends of the Waitsburg Pool keeps lessons free for all Waitsburg residents.

The pool is also available to rent for parties or private gatherings for $50/hr. Check the city website at http://www.cityofwaitsburg.com for a rental form, or contact City Hall at (509) 337-6371.

Prescott Pool Update

The Prescott Pool was the first to get (swimmers) feet wet this summer. Three area schools took advantage of the Prescott pool and park facilities to reward their students on June 1, 2 and 8-10.

Saager Middle School bused more than 150 "detention-free" students out for swims over the course of two days. Vista Hermosa Elementary School students celebrated the end of the school year at the Prescott Pool, and Prescott middle and high school students who met behavior goals were also rewarded with swim time.

The Prescott Joint Parks & Recreation Department recently added an ADA sidewalk to its park area, added one picnic pad and increased an existing pad. They also added a second barbeque, which is ADA compliant and swivels for easy access from a wheelchair. Prescott is the only pool in the area with an ADA compliant lift.

The Prescott Pool will open to the public on June 13 from noon to 7 p.m. Regular hours will be Open Swim from 1-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from noon-7 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Lap Swim/Aerobics is held Monday through Thursday from 7-8 p.m.

Daily Fees are: Adults (18+): $4; Youth (6-17) and Seniors (65+): $3; Children 5 and under swim free when accompanied by a paying adult. Individual passes are $55. A Family/Grandparent pass is $110 and includes two adults and all minor children living in the household.

Swim lessons will begin June 22. The two-week morning session classes will meet Tuesday through Friday. Signup is requested, and lessons are free to those living in the 99348 zip code.

Register for lessons at the pool or call the pool office at (509) 849-2214 or leave a clear message (with callback number) with Yvonne at (509) 849-2314.

Information on the Prescott Pool and upcoming special events can be found at the pool's website at pjprd.org.

Dayton Pool Update

The Dayton City Pool will be open to the public beginning on Thursday, June 11, at 1 p.m. Open Swim (or Recreational Swim) is Monday through Saturday from 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

A one-day pass is $3. Season passes are $60 for individuals, $120 for a family of four. For more information on rates or schedules, call the pool after June 10 at (509) 382-2441.

Swimmers interested in lessons or swim team, ages 5-18, may register at the pool on or after June 11. Lessons start June 22; swim team starts June 15.

Adult Aquacise classes are weekdays from 12-1 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. Cost for each time slot is $3, or participants can purchase a Dayton City Pool season pass. Classes are not held during adverse weather.

The noon class will have informal, self-led classes until about July 1. After that, a leader will be available. All leaders are volunteers.

Besides a bathing suit and towel, participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen, sun hats and water shoes.

These are informal, self-paced sessions. Water supports the body during the exercises, lessening the impact on joints.

Non-swimmers are encouraged to enjoy the water, exercises and friendships as well.

For more information on aquacise, call the Dayton City Pool at (509) 382-2441 after June 10 or Carol Anderson at (509) 382-4335.
