DAYTON – Columbia County Prosecutor Rea Culwell spoke to the Dayton School Board last week during their regular board meeting in support of interim Secondary Principal Kate Wenzl. The district is in the hiring process right now for a permanent junior high/high school principal. Wenzl is one of four candidates for the position under consideration.

"For the very first time in the eight years and two months I've been here, I have no new juvenile cases on my docket," Culwell told the board. She attributes this directly to the work Wenzl has been doing in the high school and junior high.

Wenzl has been interim secondary principal since the beginning of this school year. She and the other three candidates: Paul Shaber, Guin Joyce and Randy Hoover, met with the community, students, teachers, staff and other last week as part of the hiring process. The selection committee plans to have a recommendation ready to present to the superintendent this week with the potential announcement of the successful candidate for the permanent position at the regular school board meeting on Wednesday, March 18.
