Newman and Just Take 2nd and 5th at NW Christian Invitational

Newman falls to Dituri, but looks to Feb. rematch

COLBERT – WP grapplers traveled to Colbert Jan. 17 to compete in the Northwest Christian High School Crusader Wrestling Classic Invitational. Tristan Newman placed second in the 285-pound division and David Just placed fifth at 138 pounds, with both wrestlers going 1-1.

132-pound Devin Newman dropped two by pin. At 138 pounds, Just lost one by pin before winning against Pomeroy’s Chance Robison in a 10-0 major decision. Dejay Lalka, at 145 pounds, dropped two by pin. Heavyweight Tristan Newman won his first match by pinning Austin Fawcett of Rogers in :50. He then faced off against longtime rival Mark Dituri of Mary Walker High School, losing by pin in 5:16.

“Tristan went into his first match against Fawcett with a plan, getting him off balance and taking him down for the first point. Tristan dominated the match and advanced to the finals where he once again faced Mark Dituri. This was a rematch from the finals last week at the Springdale tournament (which Newman won), but Dituri won this week’s battle,” said coach Lanny Adams. “They will have another chance to meet each other on Feb. 14th at the regional tournament back at Northwest Christian.”
