MILTON- FREEWATER - Dayton's' Kaitlyn Andrews continued her dominance of the javelin competition at each event she attends - even against competitors from much larger schools.

Last week's Carnival of Speed track and field meet here featured athletes from schools of all sizes from northeast Oregon and southeast

Washington. Andrews' winning throw of 112 feet, 10 inches was sub-par for her, but she easily outdistanced the competition from schools like Pendleton, Umatilla and Wa-Hi.

Andrews, a junior, also had strong showings in her other events, finishing second in the long jump and fifth in the 100 meter dash and tenth in the shot put.

"Kaitlyn had quite an up and down day," said Dayton coach Dan Nechodom. " The good outweighed the bad, however, and she ended up with 23 points total, winning the High Point award for the women's events." Andrews' points alone put Dayton 10th out of 23 teams in the girls' team competition.

Dayton hurdler Oscar Teixeira, a Finnish exchange student, had a breakout race, finishing fourth in the 110 meter hurdles.

For the Waitsburg- Prescott boys, Owen Lanning continued to show improvement, finishing second in the triple jump and third in the 110 meter hurdles. Kobie Brown got a personal best in the 110 meter hurdles, also finishing third.

"He and Owen continue to improve and impress us," WP coach Jeff Bartlow said.

On the girls' side for WP, Beka Adams, Meara Baker and Kimmie Hamann all got personal bests in their shot put throws. Emily Adams also got a PR in the triple jump. "Things are moving ahead for our girls," Bartlow said.
