Lady ‘Dogs End Hard-Fought Season in Cheney

CHENEY - The Dayton Bulldogs volleyball team fell just short of moving on to State play at Saturday's Regional tournament here. The Bulldogs lost their first match to Davenport in four sets, 25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 18-25. The picked up a five-set win against Wilbur-Creston in game two,27-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22, 15-5 before falling to Reardon in a winner-tostate five-set match, 18-25, 25-21, 10-25, 25-23, 9-15.

"The girls played hard!" said coach Shannon Turner. "We didn't get the outcome that we wanted but I'm proud of my team for all of their hard work this season. We improved everywhere on the court - both individually and as a team." Turner said the team fought hard, but didn't get much down time to rest between games. "We played tired and failed to execute offense the way we wanted to. We played 14 games on Saturday," she said.

Mia Becker served up a perfect 18-18 against the Davenport Gorillas in the first game of the day. Josilyn Fullerton made seven kills, 13 assists, 19 digs and two blocks, Madison Mings made eight kills, 20 digs and seven blocks, Lexie Ramirez made five kills, eight assists, 24 digs and one block. Sarah Phillips made two kills and 23 digs.

In game two against Wilbur-Creston Sarah Phillips served 29-29 with 4 aces and 21 digs. Ramirez served 16-17 with four aces, four kills, five assists and 25 digs. Jenna Phillips dished out 20 kills and 21 digs, Fullerton had 23 assists and Myrick had six kills and five blocks.

In the loser out match against Reardon Fullerton and Jenna Philips both served17-17, with Phillips making eight kills and Fullerton seven. Myrick added another seven kills, Ramirez made 12 assists, Becker made eight digs and Mings made six.

The Bulldogs will lose four seniors in 2015: Sarah Phillips, Lexie Ramirez, Taylor Frame and Keelin Hovrud. "We will miss our seniors. Thank you for your time, commitment and dedication to our volleyball program the last six years, " said Turner.
