WAITSBURG YARD SALE DAY

WAITSBURG - This Saturday, June 5, there will be yard and garage sales everywhere you look in Waitsburg. The annual event has more than a dozen households signed up to sell those special items you've been looking for.

You can find the sales at the following addresses: 620 E. 6th St., 701 Main St., 316 Jay St., 129 W. First St., 214 Bruce St., 621 E. 7th St., 900 Caroline, Main 4th (Baker's sideyard), 233 W. First St., 221 W. Third St., 721 Orchard and 715 Maple

GEARING UP FOR GRADUATION

WAITSBURG - The class of 2010 anxiously prepares for graduation exercise. Friday night, June 4, the 115th graduation ceremony will see 33 students recognized. Activities will commence at 8:00 p.m., June 4, in the Waitsburg High School gym.

Dayton High will have their graduation ceremonies on Saturday, June 5, at 1 p.m. Dayton will in the DHS gymnasium.

Prescott's graduation exercises will be June 12 at 7 p.m.

AQUACIZE CLASSES START

DAYTON - The Dayton City Pool will open for adult Aquacize classes starting Friday, June 11, weather permitting. There are two class sessions that run Monday to Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m.

Early season classes are self-directed. Availability of leaders depends on the weather and water temperature. Volunteer leaders are Carol Anderson and Nancy Hoffman when available. Other class members also serve as substitute leaders.

A new pump will be installed before the pool opens for the season. Solar panels provide heat for the pool. Exercise routines are conducted in the shallow end of the pool. Perticipants (swimmers and non swimmers alike) may join for the entire season or come any day that's convenient for them.

JUNIOR GOLF LESSONS

WAITSBURG - Free Junior Golf lessons will be offered again this year to all kids in Dayton, Waitsburg and surrounding areas June 28, 29, 30, July 1 and 2.

A signup sheet is on the counter at the Sandtrap Restaurant at the Dayton Golf Course and all kids wanting to take lessons must be registered before June 22.

There will be three 50-minute classes held each day beginning at 9 a.m. ending at noon. Each student will be in one of the three classes. Everyone will be called prior to program with the information as to their class times, eetc. If students are involved with swim team practices or other morning commitments, they can leave a note at the restaurant for their best times.

Max Reinland, Walla Walla Veteran Memorial Golf Course pro, will teach the lessons and provide golf clubs and balls for the lessons. Kids who have their own clubs are encouraged to bring them. For more information, call Patty Eng at 509-520-0473.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OPEN HOUSE

DAYTON - On Wednesday, June 9, the public is invited to the ribbon cutting and Open House for the new Columbia County Public Transportation Building from 5 - 7 p.m.

The ribbon cutting itself will take place at 5:15 p.m., after which a celebratory BBQ dinner will be served followed by tours of the facility.

Local public officials, port commissioners and staff, Public Transportation staff and Washington State Department of Transportation personnel will be invited to attend.

JOHN TURNER MEET GREET

WAITSBURG - A John Turner for Sheriff "Meet Greet" presentation and community discussion is scheduled for Tuesday June 15th at 7:00 PM at Robbie Marilyn Johnson's downtown Waitsburg theater. Refreshments and some "yummies" will be served. Hosts for this event are Turner's cousin Gary Hofer and Marilyn Johnson.

MAYOR PICKED AS LION OF THE YEAR

WAITSBURG - First-term Waitsburg Mayor Walt Gobel has received the Lion Of The Year Award from the Waitsburg club.

The club also announced President Scott Branson will hand over his duties to his replacement for the coming year, Louis Gagnon.
