DAYTON — “Arthur the King” is based on an incredible true story. Over the course of ten days and 435 miles, an unbreakable bond is forged between pro adventure racer Michael Light (Mark Wahlberg) and a scrappy street dog companion dubbed Arthur. This movie follows Michael Light, desperate for one last chance to win, as he convinces a sponsor to back him and a team of athletes for the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic. As the team is pushed to their outer limits of endurance in the race, Arthur redefines what victory, loyalty, and friendship truly mean.

Over 95% of audiences on the Rotten Tomatoes website liked this movie, but only about 70% of critics agreed. The critics there said “It’s hard to deny Arthur the King’s ability to tug at the heartstrings, although it may have been more effective if it had taken a subtler approach.” The audience summarized that this “is a feel-good movie with enough excitement and heartwarming drama to entertain the whole family.” The IMDb website rated this movie 7.2 out of 10. This movie is rated PG-13 for some strong language. It has a runtime of 107 minutes.

Notice: The Liberty Theater is having a free movie premiere event on Monday, April 22 at 7 pm. The 30 minute movie was filmed partly in Dayton at our Historic Depot and in the Walla Walla Valley. This movie is about a weaver and a group of seamstresses that learn to navigate the unstable climate in post-Civil War Pendleton, OR, while trying to secure their futures in the town. A question-and-answer session with the movie makers and cast members will be included after the movie showing. Few seats remain, but free tickets may still be obtained in advance at wallawalla.edu/cmm.
