Waitsburg School Board Update

March 8, 2017

 


Transportation/Maint./Facilities:

-Board approved the expenditure of approximately $2,500 to $3,000, after a Pacific Power incentive, to upgrade light fixtures in Preston Hall and the high school. The upgrade is expected to save the school approximately $3,000/year in energy savings.

-Board approved bringing part-time custodian, Rick Suchodolski, on full-time during spring break to perform deep cleaning.

Public Comment:

Board approved the purchase of paint for Jacob Elder to paint the football field bleachers as part of an Eagle Scout project, during spring break.

New Business:

-Dinah Lindsey gave a presentation on how Chromebooks are being used in the classroom. See story on Page 7.

-Deanna Coulston and Gabe Kiefel gave a presentation on how the elementary school is utilizing student achievement data.

-Dr. Bill Jordan gave an updated timeline for the District Superintendent search. Final interviews and community open sessions will take place in early April.

-Snow make-up days will be held June 12 -14. Seniors will still graduate on June 2, but will attend school on Sat. March 11 and Sat. April 22 to make up for snow days.

-The board unanimously approved the hire of Design West, of Kennewick, as the architect for the district’s capital improvement projects.

-The board unanimously approved the closure of the district office from April 3-7, during spring break.

-The board approved the resignation of Tavis Crittenden as head boys’ basketball coach. He is completing his student teaching and is looking for a teaching position closer to his home, Clarke said.

-The board unanimously approved the hire of Bill Ayotte as middle school baseball assistant coach.

-The board unanimously approved the hire of Josh Wilson and Danielle Carpenter and as middle school softball assistant coaches. Dayton will pay for the second assistant coach.

-The board unanimously approved the hire of Nick Carpenter as assistant high school track and field coach.

Executive Session:

The board met in executive session for the superintendent’s evaluation.
