Waitsburg Girls Fall to Cle Elum, 60-21

Team stuggles against strong D after taking first quarter lead

GRANGER – The Waitsburg girls’ basketball team couldn’t keep up with Cle Elum/Roslyn, as they dropped their first game of the season Saturday, 60-21.

The Lady Cardinals had a solid first quarter, jumping out to a 10-7 lead at the end of the period. But they only managed to score 11 more points the rest of the way, as the Cle Elum defense shut them down.

Waitsburg girls’ coach Roy Ramirez joined the team late after the previously hired coach resigned. “I only had about a week with the girls before the first game,” Ramirez said. “They’re working hard and learning fast. They’ll be competitive soon.”

For the game, Taylor Hays had 10 points, Devon Harshman scored six and Analise Araya scored five.

Waitsburg was to play at Mac-Hi on Tuesday night. They will host Touchet on Friday night and then travel to Garfield/Palouse on Saturday.
