SPOKANE – The Dayton girls' basketball team earned a trip to the state tournament over the weekend with two wins at the District tournament here. The victories gave Dayton the third seed coming out of Districts.

On Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs took on a Lind-Ritzville-Sprague team that beat them earlier this year, and looked to be headed to defeat again. Struggling to get anything going on offense, the Dayton team trailed 20-14 at the half, and was still down by six, 29-23, after three quarters.

A three-point shot by Madison Mings and clutch free-throw shooting by Jenna Phillips capped a 14-5 rally by the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

For the game, Philips led the Dayton scoring with 16 points. Sidney Andrews had 10 points.

The Lady Bulldogs moved on to play Davenport Saturday afternoon, and again rode a fourth-quarter rally to win handily, 43-34.

Dayton again struggled in the first half and went into the intermission down two, 18-16. The Bulldogs chipped away in the second quarter, and the game was tied at 29 at the end of three. With another fourteen-point fourth quarter, Dayton ran away with the win.

Against Davenport, Andrews scored 16 points, and Phillips chipped in 14. Madison Mings and Shayla Currin each scored six points, with Mings's points coming on two treys.

Friday's game against Mabton kicks off at 6 p.m. at Eisenhower High School in Yakima. The winner moves on the final eight at the Hardwood Classic in Spokane the following weekend, where the state champion will be crowned.
